Building multiresolution models for fast interactive visualization

چکیده

In this paper we describe a new method for constructing a multi-resolution representation for complex triangle meshes and we describe a new algorithme to reene and to coarsen a simpliied mesh at variable resolution with respect to a given error function. Using this algorithm we show how view-dependent adaptive approximations of the triangle nets with guaranteed approximation error can be generated on the y. A modiied one-sided Hausdorr distance is used as a geometrically meaningful error between the original and the simpliied meshes. Since this distance is parameterization-independent, its use as error measure is superior to the use of the L 1-Norm between parameterized surfaces.
